If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen several posts from my next favorite place in New Orleans – the Melrose Mansion. I was actually first introduced to this boutique hotel via my previous job in advertising, and the tour I was given left a lasting impression! Since then, I’ve treated myself to several staycations at the hotel which I HIGHLY recommend doing. If you’re able to secure their Exclusive Grande Balcony Suite, featuring a private balcony overlooking Esplanade and a marble bathtub large enough to swim laps, you may not ever want to leave!
Living up to its name, the Melrose Mansion is a mini oasis on Esplanade Avenue that makes you feel as though you’ve landed in Beverly Hills. What was once a single-family Victorian home built in 1885, now boasts beautifully remodeled guest rooms with a minimalistic yet elegant feel. Brushing up on my history of the hotel, I was surprised to learn of the transition in ownership over the years to various local celebrities – including burlesque performer, Chris Owens, and real estate developer, Sidney Torres. Now owned by local entrepreneur, Joe Jager, the hotel is a part of the French Quarter Hotel Collection. Not only does the Melrose Mansion cater to tourists looking to avoid the congestion at high-volume hotels, but they consider local New Orleanians to be valued guests as well. I check their website frequently to stay abreast on the various specials and promotions they offer!
When I think of the Melrose Mansion, I associate the hotel with “elegance”. This is something I definitely wanted to reflect in my outfit choice. The fedora paired with a flowing maxi skirt gave me Old Hollywood vibes. Wearing a swimsuit at the pool isn’t always necessary, so this is how I’d dress for a casual day outside to relax – preferably with a Gimlet in hand!
