If you’re ever feeling stuck in a rut when it comes to your closet, an easy way to jive things back up is mixing and matching patterns. When executed right, the juxtaposition created in the overall look is eye-catching! However, mixing patterns is a bold move because it also has the potential to be a disaster. Putting together outfits with not only different patterns, but colors, textures, shapes etc. became an interest to me after watching Blair Waldorf’s character on “Gossip Girl” for so many years. Granted her wardrobe was carefully curated by the top stylists in NYC, so it’s not the easiest to model after…

I’ve found a simple solution to tackle the pattern-mixing trend that’s always worked for me… STRIPES. In the look I’m wearing here, you can see how the Bec & Bridge top I’ve paired with this Parker dress both have stripes, but the colors, texture and positioning are different! When mixing stripes, the key is to have noticeable contrast. Try pairing a top having horizontal stripes with a skirt having vertical stripes. However, ALWAYS keep the color scheme similar… what I mean by this is don’t cross blue stripes with black as that will create too much confusion. Although the juxtaposition is what’s fascinating, keep in mind that less really is more! I’ve scoured the internet to find my favorite striped pieces for mixing and matching, which you can find below 🙂
