It’s always been a dream of mine to live in the French Quarter, so when Porter Lyons invited me to enjoy a mini staycation in their apartment right off Jackson Square, I was SO excited! Tucked away behind their storefront on Toulouse Street is a charming studio apartment, perfect for a weekend getaway. If you follow me on Instagram, you’re aware that one of my favorite things to do is roam around the French Quarter – and that’s exactly what I did.
Upon my arrival, I made myself at home and played dress up in all of the beautiful pieces Porter Lyons had graciously left me to try on! The Saturday night of my stay was also the launch party of their Veve collection, so naturally I wanted to wear a few of the new pieces to the event. After a quick change, it was time for food (because when is it not a time for food?). Luckily for me, the studio was less than a block away from one of my FAVORITE restaurants in New Orleans – Sylvain. Quite possibly the best cheeseburger I’ve ever had… and I mean ever.
I knew I didn’t have too much time to kill until the Veve launch party that night, so I quickly headed back to the studio to start getting ready. It had been some time since I had been to what used to be my favorite watering hole – Cane & Table – so I wanted to be sure I had enough time to swing by for cocktail or two before making my way to the event. With Krewe of Boo rolling through the French Quarter that night, traffic was a NIGHTMARE! Living downtown definitely has its perks, but when it comes to parades you can plan on not being able to leave your apartment unless on foot!
Although a few minutes late, my friend and I finally arrived to the launch party for Porter Lyon’s new Veve collection. The event took place on the rooftop of the Rice Mill Lofts, which could possibly be the most gorgeous apartment complex I’ve ever seen! Attendees were a mix of both familiar and new faces, but sharing the common bond of a love for the Porter Lyons brand. With all of the events that take place in New Orleans, it’s extremely important to stand out from the crowd if you want to be noticed! I shouldn’t have expected anything less from Porter Lyons. For those that don’t know, “veve” is a religious symbol commonly used in different branches of voodoo which served as the overall theme of the launch party. Not only were guests greeted with aerial performances and voodoo rituals, but in between viewing the new fine jewelry collection they could have a tarot card or palm reading.
After a full day of activities, I retreated back to my “home away from home” in the French Quarter and called it a night! I’m so incredibly grateful to the Porter Lyons team for hosting me and treating me to such an awesome experience. As a fashion blogger, it’s rare that you get quality time with a designer and/or brains behind a successful brand. Getting to know Ashley Porter and her team, it’s apparent how much they not only value the Porter Lyons brand, but also their customers! Don’t sleep on this one guys… this is a designer that’s changing the game and showing love to New Orleans!
