When it comes to accessorizing, my mentality has always been that “less is more” – that is until I was introduced to Porter Lyons. What is Porter Lyons? I could tell you exactly what it stands for or pull the mission statement directly from the website, but in less words let’s just say… it’s the Mac Daddy of jewelry and accessories! In other words, an edgy but classic accessories brand that believes in preserving culture through design.
Porter Lyons came to life circa 2012 by Ashley Lyons Porter, who is the beauty and the brains behind the brand. One thing I love the most about living in New Orleans is that every person, place and thing has a story behind it. After meeting Ashley and the Porter Lyons team a few weeks back to learn more about the brand, I immediately felt a strong connection. Not only does Porter draw inspiration from the artistic, natural and spiritual aspects of New Orleans, but also from her family’s roots dating back centuries in this vibrant city.
There’s no other city in the world that shares the interconnectivity that exists in New Orleans. All in one day I can be one person’s “baby”, another person’s “sista” and someone else’s “mama”! The unparalleled love that is shared in and for our community is evident in how we choose to give back, which is a priority for Porter Lyons. Staying true to her mission, Porter gives back to the city that inspires her by donating a portion of the proceeds to different relief efforts that are local and based on which culture the particular collection is inspired by.
Sharing the same aesthetic and love for New Orleans, it only made sense for the monochrOmen and Porter Lyons to link up! What I love most about the brand is how each collection encompasses the juxtaposition of masculine and feminine energies that I personally find compelling. I wanted to portray this in how I styled a few pieces by Porter Lyons… for a more masculine approach with a tuxedo jacket and dress pants, I opted for layering the Lace and Pearl Chokers with the Prism Necklace, paired with heavy ear hardware for a more dominant feel. To soften things up, I went with a simple black gown by L’Agence that called for a statement earring. While options for statement earrings are endless with Porter Lyons, the Dark Side Earring was the perfect compliment for this particular look.
I’m sure it’s no surprise that Halloween in New Orleans is one of my most favorite times of the year! Coming October 21st and just in time for Voodoo is Porter Lyons’ newest collection – Veve. A few of the pieces I’m wearing in each of these looks are from the Veve collection, so you can only imagine HOW AMAZING the rest will be!
