Having worked in retail for so many years, I’ve been asked just about every question in the book. The most frequently asked is, “I have a wedding to go to this weekend, what to I wear?!” I’ll start off by saying there’s a lot directions my reply can go, so it’s my job to ask the right questions in return to narrow it down. Since we’ve just entered the peak of the hottest season, here’s my round-up of What to Wear: Summer Wedding.
Formal Summer Wedding: the classic LBD. Just because it’s Summer doesn’t mean black is out of the picture! As long as the silhouette and fabric are light and lively, a classic LBD is an obvious go-to for a formal wedding.
Outdoor Summer Wedding: the elegant cutout dress. Outdoor weddings during the Summer are always the most challenging – especially living in the South. Opting for a maxi dress with tasteful cutouts with not only be breezy, but comfortable.
Casual Summer Wedding: the festive pantsuit. A pantsuit?? Yes! If executed correctly, you’ll stand out from everyone else wearing a conventional cocktail dress. To avoid looking like one of the ushers, dress it up with a silky top and strappy heels. Celebrate the vibrance of Summer by choosing a suit in a bright color, or fun pattern.
Day-to-Night Summer Wedding: the lace dress. This is another tricky one having to find something that’s transitional from day to night, but a lace dress is an easy bet. With lace being one of the more popular fabrics for brides, make sure to steer clear of anything in the white or neutral category.
Black-Tie Summer Wedding: the fashion-forward jumpsuit. Every now and then, we get a last-minute invitation either to a wedding or some other formal event. For these unexpected occasions, a tailored jumpsuit is always my go-to! Take a tip from the celebs who wear a jumpsuit instead of a gown to formal award ceremonies. They almost always make it on the Best Dressed list!
Garden Summer Wedding: the playful and romantic cocktail dress. I never really have many weddings to attend, but for some reason the first 6 months of 2018 presented itself with 5 different weddings! Instead of breaking the bank buying multiple dresses, I wanted to invest in one piece that would easily transition for each occasion. The dress I’m wearing in the look pictured is PERFECT for someone needing to recycle for multiple events! A cocktail dress that’s romantic and playful can be worn with heels for a more formal wedding, but would also be great with a dressy sandal for a day wedding.
